A Mishawaka mom is accusing a gym teacher of duct taping her son's mouth shut. She says it happened last week during gym class while other students were watching.
Rita Burnett says last week her 8-year-old autistic son came home from Battell Elementary upset. He said the gym teacher made him put duct tape over his mouth for nearly an hour.
Several students and the teacher's aide allegedly witnessed the entire incident.
Frustrated with the school Burnett filed a police report.
“This guy hurt my child, if not physically, hurt him emotionally and mentally,” says Burnett. “You don't do that to a child. He is only 8 years old. He has autism, ADHD, and a mood disorder. You don't do it to any kid.”
The school district says they are working with police while the matter is under investigation.
The mother says she plans to take legal action if she is not happy with the outcome of the police investigation.
